Matthew Brennan showcased his sprinting prowess by clinching victory in Stage 1 of the Tour de Romandie. The stage, spanning 194 kilometers from Münchenstein to Fribourg, featured four classified climbs, including the challenging Col de Pontins, which posed a significant test for the riders. Brennan`s decisive finish in the bunch sprint not only earned him the stage win but also propelled him to the top of the general classification.

In the early part of the race, a breakaway group consisting of Silvan Dillier (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Ben Zwiehoff (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Gerben Kuypers (Intermarché-Wanty), Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier (Lidl-Trek), and Enzo Paleni (Groupama-FDJ) managed to establish a four-minute lead.
