Interim coach Tom Sermanni's strategy to give more playing time to new and less experienced players paid off, as three debutants scored their first international goals. Natasha Prior from the Newcastle Jets opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the game, followed by Sharn Freier of Brisbane Roar two minutes later. Bryleeh Henry of Melbourne City sealed the win with a header in the 78th minute.
Chinese Taipei managed to break the Matildas' 17-year clean sheet streak against them when Chen Jin-wen scored in the 34th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse.
The match highlighted the depth and talent within the A-League, with all three goal-scorers coming from the domestic competition. The attendance, although not a sell-out, still reflected strong support for the team, with 26,795 fans in attendance.
