Newcastle`s Surfest is set to electrify the surfing world as it kicks off the 2025 Challenger Series!

The anticipation is palpable as Newcastle prepares to host the prestigious Surfest, marking the first Challenger Series event of 2025. Set against the stunning backdrop of Merewether Beach from June 1-8, this iconic competition, nearly 40 years in the making, will see over 120 surfers vying for a coveted spot on the 2026 Championship Tour (CT). The upgrade from a QS event to the second tier of professional surfing underscores the significance of Surfest, which will stand as the only Australian contest on the Challenger Series.

The 2025 CT season promises to be a thrilling ride, kicking off at Pipeline on January 27 and culminating in finals at Cloudbreak from August 27. Australia’s leg will feature the legendary Bells Beach starting April 18, the much-anticipated return of Snapper Rocks in early May after a five-year absence, and the formidable Margaret River, known for its powerful waves, as the last event before the mid-season cut. With top surfers like Jack Robinson, who recently dazzled with an 8.00 at Jeffrey’s Bay, and fierce competitors such as Caity Simmers and Caroline Marks, the stakes have never been higher. The spotlight remains firmly on these iconic venues, shaping the future of surfing in Australia and beyond.
