After Robert Milkins, David Gilbert's opponent in the World Snooker Championship, struggled and once threw his cue to the ground, Gilbert needed just one more frame to advance to the quarterfinals.

The 16-ranked Milkins, behind 7–4 at the time, threw down his cue to vent his irritation as Gilbert was able to establish a significant lead before the final session.

On the first day of competition, Gilbert overcame Luca Brecel, the 2023 champion, in the first round and now leads Milkins 12–4. The bout is scheduled to resume at 190 BST.
