Salford City part company with head coach

Salford City, who is now ranked 21st in the league, fired head coach Neil Wood following a stretch of eight League Two games without a victory.

After replacing Gary Bowyer in May 2022, the 40-year-old guided the Ammies to the League Two playoffs the previous season.


But Wood was not able to lead Salford to the same level of success this season, and his final game in the post came on Boxing Day, when the team lost 5-1 at home to Tranmere.

The game against Grimsby on Friday will be managed by assistant coach Simon Wiles.
