Ethiopia showcased its marathon prowess at the 2025 Madrid Marathon, held on April 27, with Derara Hurisa clinching the men`s elite title in a stunning time of 29:12. Hurisa`s victory was marked by a fierce competition, as he led fellow Ethiopian Limenih Getachew, who finished in 29:28, and Spain`s Yago Rojo, who crossed the line in 29:37, securing a commendable third place.

In the women`s elite race, Maritu Ketema emerged victorious, achieving a personal best of 2:25:55. She outpaced Ethiopia`s Zinash Dibebe, who finished in 2:272, and Kenya`s Betty Chepkorir, who completed the marathon in 2:28:58.
