Ezra Mam`s Controversial Penalty Sparks Outcry

:In a recent development in the rugby league, NRL star Ezra Mam has found himself at the center of a controversy following a lenient penalty for a serious offense. The 21-year-old Brisbane Broncos player was involved in a head-on collision on October 18 after driving unlicensed and under the influence of drugs, including cocaine.

Mam pleaded guilty to driving while a relevant drug was present in his blood and driving without a license. Despite the severity of the incident, which could have resulted in fatalities, Mam was fined $850 and had his license suspended for six months. No conviction was recorded.

The penalty has been widely criticized, with the Queensland government stepping in to express their dissatisfaction. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie and Attorney-General Deb Frecklington have both labeled the penalty as `disgraceful` and a `slap on the wrist.` Frecklington has indicated that she will be considering legislation changes to ensure more severe penalties for similar offenses in the future.

Mam, who recently re-signed with the Broncos on a five-year contract reportedly worth $4 million, has expressed deep remorse for his actions and is now at risk of an NRL ban and fine as the integrity unit finalizes its investigation.
