Jakobsen Prepares for Sprint Showdown in 2025

Picnic PostNL is gearing up for an ambitious 2025 cycling season, targeting both Grand Tour general classifications and sprint victories. Fabio Jakobsen, the team's sprint leader, is focusing on enhancing his endurance and has shed four kilos to better adapt to the increasingly hilly race profiles. His season will kick off at the AlUla Tour, followed by participation in the UAE Tour, which he has labeled as the biggest sprint showdown of the year.

The team's strategy for the Grand Tours includes Romain Bardet and Max Poole at the Giro d'Italia, with Bardet set to compete in his final Grand Tour as a professional cyclist. Casper van Uden will also make his three-week debut at the Giro, benefiting from a robust lead-out train aimed at achieving strong sprint results.

At the Tour de France, the focus will shift to stage results, particularly in hilly and mountainous terrains, with riders like Oscar Onley and Frank providing strong attacking options. The team is poised to make a significant impact across various stages, capitalizing on their strengths in challenging conditions.

The 2025 cycling calendar is expanding with new races, including events in South Korea, Chile, and Algeria. The Tour of Sahel in Mauritania is returning to the UCI calendar, while Algeria introduces two new one-day races to complement its flagship Tour d'Algerie. East Asia will see the addition of the Tour of Yellow River and the Tour of Shanghai, with Japan hosting the Road Race Tokyo Tama. Türkiye is also expanding its racing program with new events like the Grand Prix Edebiyat Yolu and the Grand Prix Çankiri, while Mauritius adds the Classique des Cannes and the Classique of Mauritius to its lineup.

The route for the 2025 Vuelta a España has been unveiled, featuring challenging ascents such as Angliru and Bola del Mundo, along with a crucial individual time trial in the third week. The Tour de France 2025 route will include two time trials and six summit finishes, starting in Lille Métropole and featuring stages like Lauwin-Planque to Boulogne-sur-Mer and Valenciennes to Dunkerque.
