Aitana Bonmati winner forged by adversiity

"Where did this girl come from, where did she come from?"

Those unbelievable words echoed throughout Catalonia each time Aitana Bonmati on the field.


She disproved doubts and stereotypes right away in the early 2000s, when girls were not typically seen on football fields.

Her first coach was Oscar Gamez, who led her on a boys' squad at CD Ribes when she was seven years old. He remembers those post-game moments very well, when parents from the other side would come up to him looking shocked.
