Northern Hawks and Cavaliers excel in TNL season opener, showcasing strong performances and strategic resilience.

The Tasmanian Netball League (TNL) has kicked off its season with thrilling performances from the Northern Hawks and Cavaliers. The Hawks, under new coach Cameron Martin, secured a solid 48-38 victory over Cripps Waratah, showcasing their defensive prowess and mid-court efficiency. Despite missing six-time TNL MVP Ash Mawer, who transferred to Victoria, the Hawks rallied from a half-time deficit, dominating the third quarter 17-6. In their second match, they faced Kingston Blues, overcoming a six-goal deficit to clinch a narrow 41-39 win.

The Cavaliers also displayed their strength, particularly in defense, as they triumphed over Kingston Blues with a commanding 57-42 victory, winning all four quarters. Their second match was a test of resilience, as they initially trailed by eight goals but rallied to secure a convincing 53-32 win. This season, the TNL has expanded to 21 rounds, with the traditional opening round double-header weekend moving from Hobart to Launceston, setting the stage for an exciting competition.

With the Northern Hawks and Cavaliers establishing themselves as benchmark teams, the league promises to be more competitive, opening the door for new challengers to emerge.
