England Rugby Clubs Demand Reform

English rugby clubs in the National League One have issued a scathing open letter to the Rugby Football Union (RFU) calling for a comprehensive review of the sport's governance and management. This move comes in the wake of significant financial and administrative issues within the RFU, including a Ā£40 million annual loss and the awarding of a Ā£358,000 bonus to RFU Chair Bill Sweeny, despite the financial struggles.

The letter, signed by 12 of the 14 clubs in National League One, criticizes the RFU for `major failures in governance and leadership` and demands an independent `root and branch review` of the sport's organization. The clubs are unhappy with the current state of the game, particularly the drastic cuts in central funding for Championship clubs and the lack of clarity and strategy for the development of rugby in England.

The letter also mentions an upcoming emergency meeting of the RFU Council on December 18, urging the members to initiate an independent review of the management of rugby in England. This call for reform reflects the growing discontent among clubs and fans over the RFU's handling of the sport.
