Wrexham Stunned by Late Cambridge Equalizer

In a dramatic turn of events, Wrexham's automatic promotion hopes in the EFL League One were dealt a significant blow on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Hosting Cambridge United at home, Wrexham saw their lead slip away in the 89th minute when Daniel N'Lundulu scored a late penalty to secure a 2-2 draw for the struggling Cambridge side.

The match began with Cambridge taking an unlikely lead through Elias Kachunga in the 20th minute. However, Wrexham quickly recovered, with James McClean equalizing just seven minutes later. The home team then took the lead in the 65th minute when substitute Steven Fletcher scored shortly after coming on.

Despite this strong comeback, Wrexham's victory was denied when Lewis Brunt fouled substitute Sulley Kaikai, leading to the penalty that N'Lundulu converted. This draw is particularly tough for Wrexham, as their promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers and Birmingham City both secured wins on the same day.

Wrexham remains third in the table with 41 points, just two points behind league leaders Wycombe Wanderers, although they have played a game more than Wycombe and two more than Birmingham.

Top Scorers in the Match:
- Elias Kachunga (Cambridge United)
- James McClean (Wrexham)
- Steven Fletcher (Wrexham)
- Daniel N'Lundulu (Cambridge United)
