Izzy Taylor Reigns Supreme at Belsay Horse Trials

Izzy Taylor dominates Belsay Horse Trials, leading with Bayaanaat, while Shashank Kanamuri excels in CCI2-S.

British rider Izzy Taylor showcased her equestrian prowess at the Belsay International Horse Trials in Northumberland, dominating the Hambro Sport Horses CCI3-S class after the first day of dressage. With an impressive score of 26.2 penalties on her nine-year-old former racehorse Bayaanaat, a descendant of Derby winner New Approach, Taylor`s performance was nothing short of spectacular. Her other two mounts, Dassett Showman and Barrington Boy, also made their mark, securing third and fourth places with scores of 28.2 and 28.6 penalties, respectively.

In the face of challenging windy conditions, Taylor praised her horses for their resilience and adaptability. She highlighted Bayaanaat`s growing confidence and Dassett Showman’s mental fortitude, while acknowledging Barrington Boy`s promising moments despite battling the elements. Scotland`s Wills Oakden claimed second place with 28.1 penalties on Mile Beach, owned by Geoff and Elspeth Adam.

Meanwhile, in the NIS Group Ltd/Encon CCI2-S, Indian rider Shashank Kanamuri, a second-year economics student at Loughborough University, led with a score of 29 on Wellfields Casino Royale, demonstrating remarkable composure amid the blustery conditions that disrupted the dressage arena. The Belsay International Horse Trials remains a pivotal event in the UK equestrian calendar, showcasing the best talents in the sport.
