In the Under-20 women`s pentathlon, Thea Brown, coached by Joanna Harding from Sale, successfully defended her title with an impressive performance. Brown kicked off her competition with a time of 8.56 in the 60 hurdles, showcasing her strength, although she noted the need for sharper execution. She excelled in the high jump, clearing 1.77 meters, and achieved a personal best of 10.65 meters in the shot put. Her long jump of 5.89 meters further extended her lead, and she concluded the event with a time of 2:31.73 in the 800 meters, totaling 4045 points, marking a personal best and the ninth-best score of all time indoors.
In the Under-20 men`s heptathlon, Sam Wright from Chelmsford set a strong benchmark with a lifetime best of 7.03 seconds in the 60 meters. Wright maintained his lead through the long jump and shot put, despite fierce competition from Luke Pichler and William Alexander. He cleared 3.70 meters in the pole vault, while Pichler managed 3.60 meters, setting the stage for an exciting second day of competition.
The para events also delivered outstanding performances, with Rebecca Scott achieving an indoor personal best of 4.76 meters in the long jump. William Baxter threw 10.51 meters in the shot put, while Lana Sutton won the 60 meters final in 8.24 seconds, and Madeline Down clocked a personal best of 8.22 seconds. Guillaume Atangana ran a commendable 7.42 seconds in the men`s race, despite battling illness over the Christmas period.
Additionally, at the Senior/U20 London Indoor Games held at Lee Valley, Ed Barber made headlines by smashing the Club M20 indoor 60m hurdles record with times of 7.98 and then 7.85 seconds. This achievement places him at the top of the 2025 UK U20 rankings and 21st on the UK all-time rankings.
