Blue Jays Eye Turner and Martinez in Offseason Moves

The 2024-2025 MLB offseason is heating up as teams look to bolster their rosters ahead of the new season. The Toronto Blue Jays are actively pursuing free agents Justin Turner and J.D. Martinez to fill the void left by departing players Matt Chapman and Brandon Belt. Turner, who had a successful stint with the Boston Red Sox after nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is expected to make a decision on his free agency soon, with the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, and Chicago Cubs also in contention for his services.

Cody Bellinger is anticipated to re-sign with the Chicago Cubs, although this will depend on whether his asking price decreases. Meanwhile, Jorge Soler is gaining traction in the free-agent market as one of the top hitters available.

In the current MLB standings, the Philadelphia Phillies are leading the National League East with a strong 62-34 record, while the Cleveland Guardians are at the top of the American League Central with a 58-37 record. The American League Wild Card race is heating up, with the Guardians and Baltimore Orioles holding the byes, while the Seattle Mariners are set to face the Boston Red Sox, and the New York Yankees will take on the Minnesota Twins in the Wild Card Series.

Several high-profile free agents are expected to make a significant impact on the market, including Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, and Pete Alonso. Soto, at just 26 years old, is projected to command a massive deal of at least 10 years and $500 million, with potential suitors including the Giants, Mets, and Yankees. Burnes, a four-time All-Star, is likely to attract interest from the Mets, Orioles, and Red Sox. Snell, who faced challenges last season, may return to the Giants or sign with the Houston Astros or Mariners. Alonso, known for his power-hitting, is a target for the Astros, Cardinals, and Mets.

The upcoming 2025 MLB season is set to kick off with an exciting matchup between the Dodgers and Cubs in Tokyo on March 18-19, followed by the official Opening Day for all 30 teams on March 27. Fans can also look forward to the MLB All-Star Game scheduled for July 15 at Truist Park, with the regular season concluding on September 28, 2025.
