Nigeria`s Super Eagles Drop in FIFA Rankings

:Nigeria's Super Eagles have concluded the year 2024 with their worst FIFA Ranking since 2018, slipping to the 44th position globally. This significant drop is largely attributed to their underwhelming performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, where they failed to secure a single win in four matches, leaving them second from the bottom in their qualifying group.

Despite this decline, the Super Eagles managed to retain their fifth position in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria. Earlier in the year, the team had shown promise by reaching the final of the delayed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, which had briefly elevated their ranking to 28th globally.

The team's mixed year included qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco by winning their qualifying group, but their struggles in key fixtures, particularly against the Benin Republic and Rwanda, have been a major concern.
