Auburn Tops Tennessee, USC Stuns UConn in NCAAB

The past weekend in NCAA men's and women's basketball saw significant shifts and exciting matchups. In the men's division, Auburn has leapfrogged Tennessee to claim the top spot in the Power 37 rankings. This change is highlighted by several key performances and upsets across the league.

Auburn's rise is part of a broader landscape of competitive games, including Ohio State's upset over Kentucky at Madison Square Garden, where Bruce Thornton scored 30 points for the Buckeyes. Other notable performances include Donovan Dent's 40 points for New Mexico against VCU and Jeremiah Fears' game-winning four-point play for Oklahoma against Michigan[3].

In the women's division, a major upset occurred as No. 7 USC defeated No. 4 UConn 72-70 in a rematch of last year's Elite Eight. USC's JuJu Watkins led the way with 25 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. Despite UConn's Paige Bueckers and Sarah Strong each scoring 22 points, the Huskies could not overcome the Trojans' strong performance[2].

Other significant upsets in women's basketball included No. 15 Michigan State losing to unranked Alabama and No. 9 Duke falling to unranked USF. Georgia Tech remained undefeated with a win over No. 23 Nebraska, while No. 14 West Virginia lost to unranked Colorado[2].

In Division II men's basketball, Nova Southeastern continues to dominate, finishing the 2024 portion of their schedule with a perfect 11-0 record. They lead the DII in scoring with an average of 111.5 points per game and are followed closely by Washburn and Ferris State, both of whom are also undefeated[1].
