Canada`s Para Alpine team excels in Maribor, while top skiers compete in the 2025 FIS Alpine Championships.

The 2025 FIS Para Alpine World Ski Championships are set to take place in Maribor, Slovenia, from February 5th to 11th. Canada has announced a formidable team of five athletes, blending experience and fresh talent. Veteran skiers Kurt and Alexis bring their extensive World Championship experience, while Michaela competes in her second championship. Newcomers Kalle and Sierra will make their debut, adding excitement to the Canadian squad. This season has been remarkable for the Canadian Para alpine team, boasting 22 podium finishes, including six victories, highlighted by a stunning triple win day in Santa Caterina, Italy, earlier this January. The championships will culminate with the women`s slalom on February 11th, which fans can catch live on FIS TV.

Meanwhile, the 2025 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships kicked off in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on February 4, 2025, with the Nations team event. The women`s Super-G, the first individual medal event, took place on February 6, featuring top contenders like Lara Gut-Behrami, who currently leads the Super-G World Cup standings, alongside Federica Brignone, Sofia Goggia, and Lauren Macuga. Notably, Mikaela Shiffrin will miss the Super-G due to an abdominal injury but is expected to compete in the technical events later in the championships.

The men`s speed races promise fierce competition, with Swiss, Austrian, and Italian skiers vying for the podium. Key athletes to watch include Justin Murisier, Franjo Von Allmen, and Vincent Kriechmayr. As the week progresses, the technical events, including giant slalom and slalom, will showcase favorites like Marco Odermatt, Atle Lie McGrath, and Henrik Kristoffersen for the men, while the women`s side features strong competitors such as Federica Brignone, Alice Robinson, and Sara Hector.
