Bamenda Clubs Face Home Match Relocations in Elite One

Bamenda clubs Yosa and PWD face match relocations in Elite One due to security and venue issues.

The Elite One championship in Cameroon is currently embroiled in controversy as teams from Bamenda, particularly Yong Sport Academy (Yosa) and PWD Bamenda, face significant challenges due to match relocations. The Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) had initially encouraged clubs to choose their home stadiums for the season, aiming to enhance team performance. However, security concerns and the poor condition of the Yong Francis Arena have led to the relocation of matches, sparking frustration among local supporters.

Yosa recently celebrated their first victory of the 2024/2025 season with a 2-0 win against AS Fortuna de Mfou at their home ground. However, as they prepared for their upcoming matches against Colombe du Sud and Aigle Royal du Moungo, the Transitional Council for Professional Football (CTFP) intervened, citing issues such as intimidation of match officials and inadequate venue conditions. This decision to move matches away from Bamenda has left fans disheartened, as they believe home advantage is crucial for their teams` success.

Both Yosa and PWD Bamenda`s management have urged fans to remain calm, assuring them that renovation efforts are underway to improve the sports infrastructure in Bamenda. Despite these reassurances, the ongoing match relocations continue to be a significant point of contention in the Elite One championship, affecting the morale of players and supporters alike. As of January 31, 2025, detailed updates on matchday results and player performances remain scarce, but the focus on venue conditions and security issues persists.
