
In the distance events, Lilly Overby from Simpson Academy showcased her talent by winning the 1600m race with a remarkable time of 58.25, finishing nearly 15 seconds ahead of the state`s top returning runner. Layla Warren also from Simpson Academy triumphed in the 3200m race with a time of 11:51.36. On the boys` side, Marcus Henning from Madison Central set a personal best in the 1600m, clocking in at 4:32.30.
In the throwing events, freshman Jillian Breland led the state with a discus throw of 108-8. Adrian Miles from D`Iberville High School also made headlines with state-leading throws in both the discus (153-5) and shot put (47-11.5) at the Rock-a-chaws Relays. Samford University`s track and field program saw Bradley Franklin earn men`s track athlete of the week honors after his victories in the 60m finals and hurdles at the Samford Bulldog Invite and Open.
