Brisbane Lions secured a season-opening win against Melbourne Demons, showcasing strong performances from key players.

Brisbane Lions kicked off the 2025 AFLW season with a thrilling victory over the Melbourne Demons at the Gabba, winning 7.9 (51) to 6.7 (43). Captain Breanna Koenen was pivotal in the Lions` success, amassing 22 disposals and scoring two crucial goals. Despite a strong performance from Demons midfielder Tyla Hanks, who recorded 26 disposals and a goal, the home ground advantage proved decisive for Brisbane.

In other matches, the Geelong Cats secured a solid win against the Collingwood Magpies, finishing 5.8 (38) to 4.5 (29). Chloe Scheer shone for the Cats, netting three goals and gathering 18 disposals, placing Geelong at the top of the ladder after Round 1.
