The Brisbane Lions are also set to benefit from the return of several players, including Tom Doedee and Keidean Coleman, both of whom spent the 2024 season recovering from ACL tears. Doedee, who has yet to play for the Lions since his trade from Adelaide in 2023, and Coleman, who had a breakout 2023 season, are crucial to the Lions' premiership defense. Additionally, Lincoln McCarthy and Darcy Gardiner, who also suffered ACL injuries, will be back in the lineup.
Carlton Blues veteran Sam Docherty, who made an inspiring return for the elimination final, is hopeful of a full season in 2025. Fellow Blue Jack Silvagni, who ruptured his ACL in January, is also on track for a Round 1 return.
Tom Mitchell, the 2018 Brownlow medallist, played only six games in 2024 but is expected to return to his accumulative best with a strong pre-season. Essendon's Zach Reid and Geelong's Cameron Guthrie are also aiming for consistent seasons after their respective injuries.
Hawthorn key defender James Blanck and key forward Mitchell Lewis are also anticipating returns from ACL injuries. Lewis, widely viewed as Hawthorn's most talented forward, is expected to be influential in the second half of the 2025 season.
