Sarawak Cup Ignites Youth Passion for Sepak Takraw

The Sarawak Cup champions youth talent, while the Philippines shines at the Asian Games, showcasing Sepak Takraw`s vibrant future.

The 2025 Sarawak Cup Sepaktakraw Championship has emerged as a beacon of hope for the future of the sport, emphasizing youth development and cultural pride. Datuk Rubiah Wang, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, lauded the efforts of the Sarawak Sepaktakraw Association (PSS) for their commitment to preserving the rich heritage of Sepak Takraw while nurturing fresh talent. The introduction of an Under-20 boys` category in the tournament is a pivotal step towards engaging the youth and cultivating the next generation of champions in Sarawak.

In a strategic move, the PSS is finalizing the appointment of a head coach for the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, with candidates hailing from Sarawak, West Malaysia, and even Thailand. An independent selection committee has been established to ensure a transparent and merit-based evaluation of players for the state squad. Despite a disappointing turnout of spectators, the PSS remains optimistic about the young talents showcased during the Sarawak Cup.

On a broader scale, the Philippines Sepak Takraw team has made waves by securing a bronze medal in the men`s quadrant competition at the 19th Asian Games, underscoring the competitive spirit of the sport across Asia. Meanwhile, the 2025 Sepak Takraw League (STL) is in full swing, with teams like Terengganu FC shifting their focus to local talent amid financial constraints, reducing their reliance on foreign players.
