Birrell Shines at Australian Open 2025

In mixed doubles, Birrell teamed up with John-Patrick Smith, where they secured a victory against Hao-Ching Chan and Marcelo Melo, winning 7-6(5), 6-3. This win propels them into the second round, where they will compete against Demi Schuurs and Tim Puetz.
However, not all Australian players had a successful day. Matthew Ebden and his new partner Joran Vliegen, seeded ninth, faced an early exit in the first round of men`s doubles, losing to Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram. John Peers and Jamie Murray also bowed out in the second round, falling to Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp. Additionally, Marc Polmans and Matthew Romios were defeated by Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten in the second round.
In women`s doubles, Priscilla Hon and Daria Saville were eliminated in the first round by Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. Destanee Aiava and Maddison Inglis also faced defeat in their first-round match against Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
