Swiatek, Gauff make winning starts

Though in quite different ways, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff both had successful openings to their WTA Finals campaigns in Riyadh on Sunday.
Swiatek overcame eighth-seeded Barbora Krejcikova 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in two hours and thirty-three minutes to start her championship defense with an incredible comeback.
The Polish second seed needed the victory to maintain her chances of unseating Aryna Sabalenka as the top seed.
