American Sofia Kenin through to second round

In a Pan Pacific Open first-round match on Tuesday, former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin defeated 10th-seeded Chinese player Wang Xinyu 6-1, 6-4 to continue her undefeated record against the Chinese player.
The 25-year-old American defeated Wang for the fourth time in a row. She was a finalist at the French Open and won the Australian Open in 2020. She had previously defeated Wang at Auckland, New Zealand, last year, and twice at Wimbledon in 2021 and 2023.
