Fritz and Paul win singles matches in Montreal

Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul, the bronze medallists in the Olympic doubles, won their opening singles matches at the National Bank Open on Wednesday.

Tenth-seeded Paul defeated Italian Luciano Darderi 6-4, 7-6 (2), while ninth-seeded Fritz defeated Mariano Navone of Argentina 6-4, 6-1.
