Marketa Vondrousova was defeated 6-4, 6-2 by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro at Centre Court on Tuesday, making history as the first reigning Wimbledon women's champion to fall in the opening round since 1994.


Twelve months prior, at the All England Club, Vondrousova emerged as the unexpected champion, becoming the first unseeded female to win the trophy at the grass-court Grand Slam competition.
