Gabriel Diallo Shines at Madrid Open

Gabriel Diallo impressively defeated Zizou Bergs at the Madrid Open, advancing to face Kamil Majchrzak next.

Gabriel Diallo made a stunning debut at the Madrid Open, stepping in as a lucky loser for Japan`s Yoshihito Nishioka. The Montreal native showcased his skills by overpowering Belgium`s Zizou Bergs with an impressive score of 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round. Diallo`s performance was remarkable; he did not face a single break point, won 86% of his first-serve points, and converted all four of his break opportunities, amassing 19 points on return.

This victory comes after Diallo`s earlier defeat to Croatia`s Borna Coric in the final qualifying round. Next, he is set to face fellow lucky loser Kamil Majchrzak, who took the place of the injured Carlos Alcaraz. Meanwhile, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, is scheduled to compete against Ann Li from the United States later in the tournament.

The Madrid Open continues to draw attention with top seeds like Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev in action. Notably, Kei Nishikori advanced to the second round after a hard-fought match against Australia`s Aleksandar Vukic, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Nishikori will next challenge Denis Shapovalov for a chance to progress further in the tournament. Alcaraz`s withdrawal has significantly altered the competition dynamics, making the upcoming matches even more intriguing.
