Saville and Joint Shine in Merida Tennis Action

Daria Saville and Maya Joint excel in Merida, while Jason Kubler wins in Burnie, showcasing Australian tennis talent.

Daria Saville and Maya Joint have made impressive strides in the WTA 500 event in Merida, Mexico. Saville secured her spot in the main draw with a straight-sets victory over American veteran Varvara Lepchenko, setting up a challenging first-round match against sixth seed Marta Kostyuk. Joint, the third seed in qualifying, also advanced to the main draw and will face Julia Grabher in her opening match.

In other Australian tennis highlights, Jason Kubler celebrated a significant milestone by winning the M25 ITF event in Burnie, marking his first title since returning from a 10-month injury layoff. Kubler triumphed over compatriot Omar Jasika in the final, claiming his 22nd singles title. Meanwhile, Destanee Aiava reached the final of the W75 event in Prague but narrowly lost to local favorite Gabriela Knutson, despite a notable victory over top-seeded Gao Xinyu earlier in the tournament.

Alex de Minaur, seeded second, reached the quarterfinals in Doha but was defeated by eventual champion Andrey Rublev. Priscilla Hon made waves by defeating fifth seed Lucrezia Stefanini before falling to Aiava in the semifinals. Upcoming matches include a first-round clash between Katie Volynets and Ajla Tomljanovic at the ATX Open 2025, where both players are looking to regain form.

Australian tennis news and Tennis Australia events continue to highlight the rising talents and competitive spirit of Australian players on the global stage.
