Wada calls extraordinary meeting

To review the situation involving 23 Chinese swimmers who tested positive for a prohibited substance yet were still permitted to compete in the Tokyo Olympics, the World Anti-Doping Agency has convened an unusual meeting.

It stated that the foundation board meeting on Friday was held to provide its members with "further information on this significant matter by World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) experts."

When it was discovered last month that the swimmers had not been suspended prior to the 2021 Games despite testing positive for the performance-enhancing cardiac drug trimetazidine, the organization came under fire.
