Fraser and Berry Shine at WA Surf Masters Championships

Fraser and Berry excelled at the WA Surf Masters, while Wilson and Stokes triumphed at Newcastle SURFEST.

Okie Fraser from Margaret River clinched victory in the Open Men`s division at the 2025 West Coast Suspensions WA Surf Masters Championships, scoring a remarkable 15.20. His standout performance included a near-perfect 9.38 on his opening wave, securing him a spot in the Think Mental Health WA Trials for a wildcard entry into the World Surf League Margaret River Pro.

Ruby Berry, also hailing from Margaret River, matched Fraser`s achievement by earning a place in the Trials after her impressive showing in the Open Women`s division. The event crowned eleven state champions across various categories, with competitors navigating diverse conditions over three days at Gas Bay.

In other competitive highlights, Julian Wilson and Jahly Stokes from Queensland triumphed at the Newcastle SURFEST QS 1000 event, winning the EJE Men’s Pro and Genesis Health & Fitness Women’s Pro, respectively. Wilson made a strong comeback, defeating Axel Curotta in the final with a two-wave total of 13.70. Meanwhile, surfers in South Australia faced challenges as reports of skin and eye irritations emerged due to a suspected harmful micro algal bloom, resulting in beach closures.
