Grunberg Dominates at U.S. Women’s Masters Championships

Grunberg shines at the U.S. Women’s Masters, while Zaman wins the Under-23 World Championship, highlighting squash`s growth.

Carole Grunberg showcased her prowess at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Masters Championships, held from April 4-6 at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia. Securing her sixth national title in the 70+ age division, Grunberg triumphed without dropping a single game throughout the tournament. The event featured over sixty competitors and marked a historic moment for Philadelphia, as the city clinched the City Cup for the first time.

In the fiercely contested 55+ final, South African newcomer Zoe Durbach emerged victorious against defending champion Hope Prockop in a thrilling four-game match. Other notable champions included Margaret Lux in the 40+ division and Szilvia Szombati in the 45+ division, both celebrating their first national titles. Philadelphia’s Georgina Stoker and Lauren West also made headlines by winning their respective singles divisions after previously claiming the National Doubles Open title together.

Meanwhile, Noor Zaman made waves internationally by winning the inaugural Under-23 World Squash Championship in Karachi, Pakistan, with a remarkable comeback against Egypt’s Karim El Torkey, clinching the title 3-2. The women’s final saw Egypt’s Fayrouz Abouelkheir defeat Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk in straight games. This event underscored the growing prominence of squash in both the U.S. and globally, highlighting the emergence of new talents.
