Richmond`s triumph in National League 1 secures their promotion to the exciting new Champ Rugby league, emphasizing English talent.

Richmond has clinched the title in the 2024-25 National League 1, marking a significant milestone in their rugby journey. This victory secures their promotion to the newly revamped English second-tier league, Champ Rugby, set to debut in the 2025-26 season. The revamped league promises an exciting format that includes promotion and relegation, aiming to enhance the development of English talent and boost fan engagement.

Joining Richmond in Champ Rugby will be Worcester Warriors, who also successfully navigated a rigorous selection process. The league will expand to 14 teams and introduce a playoff system for promotion and relegation, adding a thrilling competitive edge to the season. The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has placed a strong emphasis on nurturing English players, mandating that each matchday squad must include at least 18 English-qualified players. This strategic initiative is designed to cultivate a new generation of rugby talent, as evidenced by the recent inclusion of young English players in the British and Irish Lions squad.

As Richmond prepares for this new chapter, the focus on homegrown talent and competitive play promises to reshape the landscape of English rugby.
