India`s kho kho teams made history by winning the inaugural World Cup, defeating Nepal decisively in both finals.

India`s men`s and women`s kho kho teams have etched their names in history by clinching the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup titles. The finals, held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, showcased the prowess of both teams as they faced off against Nepal. The men`s team secured a decisive 54-36 victory, while the women`s team dominated with a commanding 78-40 win.

The women`s team, led by players like Monika Shah from Bihar and Nirmala Bhati from Rajasthan, not only triumphed on the field but also overcame significant societal challenges to pursue their passion for kho kho. Both teams remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, with the men`s team topping Group A with four wins, including a narrow 42-37 victory against Nepal. They advanced through the quarter-finals by defeating Sri Lanka and overcame South Africa in the semi-finals. Similarly, the women`s team showcased their strength by winning all three group-stage matches, followed by victories over Bangladesh and South Africa in the knockout rounds.

The tournament featured participation from 20 men`s and 19 women`s teams, highlighting India`s dominance in the sport on a global scale. Players like Sachin Bhargo and Suyash Gargate emphasized the significance of this victory, with the Maharashtra government promising Class I jobs for players from the state. The return of three players from Odisha—Pabani Sabar, Subhashree Singh, and Magai Machi—was met with enthusiastic celebrations, marking a proud moment for their home state.

Backed by the Indian Olympic Association, this tournament represents a significant milestone for kho kho, showcasing the sport`s potential for growth and recognition on the international stage.
