Van Gerwen beats Littler in World Matchplay

At the World Matchplay in Blackpool, three-time champion Michael van Gerwen defeated teenager Luke Littler 10-6 in the opening round.

Three-time world champion Van Gerwen has not been at his best in 2024, but he showed flashes of brilliance to defeat Littler.

Littler, a matchplay debutant who has won a ranking event every month in 2024, occasionally had trouble with fluency and displayed careless behavior at the oche.
