Gukesh tumbles while Praggnanandhaa rises in the latest FIDE ratings, igniting excitement in the chess community.

In a dramatic shift on the June 2025 FIDE rating list, reigning world champion GM Gukesh Dommaraju has seen his reign challenged, dropping 11 points and slipping two spots following the intense battles of the SuperBet Chess Classic. Meanwhile, the tournament`s victor, GM Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, has surged ahead, gaining nine points and climbing to seventh place, showcasing his rising prowess in the chess world.

The competition has also seen GM Alireza Firouzja ascend to eighth, while GM Anish Giri has made a remarkable leap of six places to secure the world number 12 position, marking his highest ranking since March 2024. At the pinnacle, GM Magnus Carlsen continues to dominate, holding the top spot for an astonishing 168th time, with GM Hikaru Nakamura maintaining second place despite not competing recently.

In addition to these shifts, GMs Levon Aronian and Alireza Firouzja celebrated victories in the first Titled Tuesdays of June 2025. The chess community is also gearing up for the upcoming World Environment Day chess tournament, set to commence on June 5, featuring talents like Nani Babu Bandaru and Sri Santosh Sadanala. Just prior, the Open Rapid tournament by A.C.C. took place on June 4, with Galerakis Panagiotis Spyridon leading the charge.
