Zhao Xintong Makes Snooker History at World Championship

Zhao Xintong`s historic victory at the World Snooker Championship marks a new era for snooker, defeating Mark Williams.

Zhao Xintong has etched his name into snooker history by becoming the first Chinese player to win the World Snooker Championship. The final match, held at the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, saw Zhao triumph over Welsh veteran Mark Williams with a score of 18-12, securing a prize of £500,000 from a total fund of £2,395,000.

The tournament, which took place from April 19 to May 5, 2025, was marked by an impressive 55 century breaks in the first round, breaking the previous record of 44 set in 2022. This year`s championship also witnessed early exits from six seeded players, including notable names like Hawkins, Neil Robertson, and Selby, alongside last year`s finalists who were eliminated in the opening round.

Zhao`s performance throughout the tournament was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing his skill and determination against a strong start from Williams. The event maintained its tradition as the premier venue for the World Championship for the 49th consecutive year, drawing large crowds and extensive media coverage from BBC Sport in the UK and Eurosport across Europe, along with global streaming via WST Play. Zhao`s victory not only highlights his personal achievement but also signifies the growing international presence in the sport of snooker, particularly from China.
