
In women`s chess, Indian Grandmaster Humpy Koneru clinched the title at the 2025 Pune FIDE Women`s Grand Prix. She defeated Nurgyul Salimova decisively in the final round with a score of 1-0, completing the tournament unbeaten with a total of 7 points out of 9. This victory positions her strongly for a potential spot in the 2026 Candidates tournament, as she secures second place in the overall Grand Prix standings.
Young talent WFM Megan Paragua, only twelve years old, achieved a remarkable performance rating of 2506 at the Grenke Open A, crossing the 2300 FIDE threshold to earn the FM title, despite facing challenges in her final two rounds.
FIDE also continued its annual support program, distributing €21,500 to 11 veterans, including notable figures like GM Jesús Nogueiras from Cuba and GM Igor Zaitsev from Russia. Meanwhile, the IV Open Chess Menorca Grupo A completed its fifth round on April 24, although detailed results are yet to be disclosed.
