Zhu Jiner Leads FIDE Women`s Grand Prix in Pune

Zhu Jiner leads the FIDE Women`s Grand Prix, while Ju Wenjun claims her fifth World Championship title, and Carlsen wins Freestyle Grand Slam.

GM Zhu Jiner continues to dominate the 2025 Pune FIDE Women’s Grand Prix, defeating IM Alina Kashlinskaya in round four. With this victory, Zhu maintains her lead with an impressive score of 3.5 out of 4 points. Close behind are Humpy Koneru and Divya Deshmukh, trailing by half a point, setting the stage for an exciting finish in the tournament.

In a historic achievement, Chinese GM Ju Wenjun secured her fifth consecutive Women’s World Chess Championship title on April 17 by defeating compatriot Tan Zhongyi. This victory further cements Ju`s legacy in women`s chess, although specific match scores were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen triumphed in the 2025 Paris Freestyle Chess Grand Slam, overcoming Hikaru Nakamura with a score of 1.5-0.5 in the final. This win not only boosts Carlsen`s Tour lead to 40 points but also earns him a substantial prize of $300,000. Following him in the standings are Vincent Keymer with 37 points, Fabiano Caruana at 33, and Nakamura with 28 points.

In a separate event, Harare claimed victory at Zimbabwe’s 2025 National Schools Chess Championships held at Chinhoyi High School from April 10-14, showcasing the growing talent in the region.
