GM Parham Maghsoodloo won the Reykjavik Chess Open, while Ju Wenjun retained her title in the FIDE Women’s Championship.

GM Parham Maghsoodloo showcased exceptional skill at the 2025 Reykjavik Chess Open, finishing with an impressive score of 7.5/9 and achieving a performance rating of 2806. His victory earned him €5,000 and a return to the prestigious 2700 rating club. Notably, Maghsoodloo demonstrated remarkable resilience, particularly in round four where he executed a brilliant queen sacrifice to turn a challenging position into a win. Despite a blunder in round seven against Canadian player Dustin Koperski, he rebounded strongly with a decisive victory in the final round.

The tournament also highlighted German streamer Marcel Petersen, who achieved a commendable score of 5.5/9, gaining 42.6 rating points. Petersen`s performance included a standout sacrificial win over Maghsoodloo, showcasing his tactical prowess.
