IOC, Macron reject Palestine’s Israel boycott call

The Palestinian demand that Israel be excluded from the Paris Games due to the Gaza War was turned down by French President Emmanuel Macron and the chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday.

The Israeli team was settling into the Athletes' Village when the IOC read a letter from the Palestine Olympic Committee, which demanded that Israel be banned for violating the Olympic truce by bombing the besieged Gaza Strip.

"Palestinian athletes, particularly those in Gaza, are denied safe passage and have suffered significantly due to the ongoing conflict," the letter, which was sent a few days before Friday's opening ceremony, stated.
