Norris and Piastri Shine in Japanese Grand Prix Practice

Norris and Piastri excelled in Japanese GP practice, showcasing McLaren`s dominance ahead of the race weekend.

Lando Norris of McLaren dominated the first practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix, clocking an impressive lap time. He was closely followed by George Russell, who trailed by just two-tenths of a second. Ferrari drivers secured the third and fourth spots, showcasing a competitive field at the Suzuka International Racing Course.

In the second practice session, Oscar Piastri, also from McLaren, took the lead with a time of 1m28.114s, narrowly edging out Norris by 0.049 seconds. However, the session faced interruptions due to four red flags. The first was triggered by a significant crash involving Alpine`s Jack Doohan, who fortunately emerged unscathed after hitting the barriers. Following this, Fernando Alonso`s spin into the gravel caused another red flag, along with additional stoppages due to burning grass on the track.

Despite these disruptions, Isack Hadjar from Red Bull managed to secure third place, while Lewis Hamilton finished fourth for Ferrari. The competitive top ten also featured George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly, and Carlos Sainz. McLaren`s strong performance, highlighted by Norris and Piastri, sets an exciting tone for the race weekend ahead in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship.
