Giovinazzi takes pole for Qatar WEC opener, edging Vanthoor, with strong performances from Ferrari and Cadillac teams.

Antonio Giovinazzi has secured pole position for the Qatar 1812km, the inaugural round of the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship. The Italian driver clocked a stunning time of 1m39.023s in the 51 AF Corse Ferrari 499P, narrowly edging out BMW`s Dries Vanthoor in the 15 BMW M Hybrid V8 by just 0.042s during the thrilling final moments of the 15-minute Hyperpole session.

Completing the front row, Antonio Fuoco in the 50 Ferrari finished 0.171s behind his teammate. The Cadillac V-Series.Rs showcased strong performances, with Alex Lynn and Sebastien Bourdais qualifying fourth and fifth, respectively. Lynn`s 12 car was 0.364s off the pole time, while Bourdais` 38 entry trailed by an additional 0.297s. Robin Frijns placed the 20 BMW sixth, 0.728s adrift.

Porsche faced challenges in qualifying, with Kevin Estre managing only seventh in the 6 963, while Matt Campbell`s 5 car finished ninth. Peugeot also struggled, with Jean-Eric Vergne in eighth and Stoffel Vandoorne rounding out the top ten. In the LMGT3 class, Ahmad Al Harthy secured pole for TF Sport in the 27 Corvette Z06 GT3.R, edging out Alessio Picariello`s 55 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R by a mere 0.086s.

The Qatar 1812km is set to commence on Friday at 110 UTC, featuring a total of 37 cars across the Hypercar and LMGT3 classes.
