Vierge Battles to Eleventh at WorldSBK Season Opener

Xavi Vierge finished eleventh at the WorldSBK season opener, while teammate Lecuona suffered a foot injury.

Xavi Vierge of the Honda HRC team showcased resilience at the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) season opener at Phillip Island, Australia, finishing eleventh in a competitive first race. His teammate, Iker Lecuona, unfortunately, was sidelined due to a foot fracture sustained during the Superpole session after a crash at Turn 9. Lecuona`s injury, a fracture of the fourth metatarsal bone in his left foot, rendered him unfit for the weekend`s events.

During the Superpole session, Vierge clocked a fastest time of 1:29.924, qualifying twelfth, just three tenths of a second from fifth place. The race commenced under hot and sunny conditions, with air temperatures reaching 36°C and track temperatures soaring to 40°C. Vierge made a strong start, quickly advancing to tenth place. After a tire change during a pit stop, he fought hard against his rivals but ultimately crossed the finish line in eleventh.

The current standings following the race see Nicolò Bulega leading with 25 points, followed by Toprak Razgatlioglu and Alvaro Bautista. The FIA also addressed the recent booing of Max Verstappen and Christian Horner, emphasizing the need for respect in motorsport. For more insights, visit motorsports and worldsbk.
