Falcons Soar Past Cardinals in Thrilling Lacrosse Opener

Messiah Falcons defeated Catholic 17-14, while Endicott dominated Keene State 25-8 in recent lacrosse action.

Messiah University`s men`s lacrosse team kicked off their season with a thrilling 17-14 victory over the Cardinals of Catholic. Despite a challenging snowy field, the Falcons showcased resilience after trailing 5-2 at the end of the first quarter. They rallied back, outscoring the Cardinals 5-1 in the second quarter to take a narrow 7-6 lead at halftime. The third quarter saw both teams net five goals, setting the stage for an exhilarating finish. In the final quarter, the Falcons outscored the Cardinals by two, maintaining possession to secure the win. Bobby Berg and Michael Cook each contributed significantly with three goals and three assists, while Owen Hammel and Will Ehrhart completed hat-tricks. Walker Penchansky excelled defensively with five caused turnovers, and Jourdain Algarin made 13 saves in goal, including 11 in the second half.

In another matchup, Keene State College faced a tough defeat against Endicott College, losing 25-8. The game began evenly, tied at 1-1, but Endicott surged ahead with a nine-goal streak. Guerin Favreau was a standout performer for Endicott, scoring five goals and providing six assists. The Gulls dominated faceoffs and capitalized on man-up opportunities, further solidifying their control of the game.

In women`s lacrosse, the America East Conference standings show UMass Lowell, Vermont, and UMBC leading with perfect records. Meanwhile, in the Ivy League, Harvard edged out Providence College with a close 12-10 victory, highlighted by Teddy Malone`s crucial man-up goal.
