Western Carolina Shines at SoCon Golf Championship

Western Carolina leads the SoCon Golf Championship, with standout performances from Ivan Ninkovic and Chase Cline.

The 2025 Southern Conference Men`s Golf Championship kicked off on April 20 at The Oconee Course in Greensboro, Georgia, featuring eight competitive teams. Western Carolina University is making a strong showing, led by junior Ivan Ninkovic, who boasts a seasonal stroke average of 73.56. Freshman Chase Cline is also a standout for WCU, with an impressive average of 72.96, ranking him among the top freshmen in the conference.

The tournament format consists of one round per day over three days, with Western Carolina paired with Mercer for their opening round. Meanwhile, Liberty University is gearing up to defend its Conference USA Men`s Golf Championship title, following a successful season.

In addition, the Illinois State men`s golf team is competing in the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Des Moines Golf and Country Club. Illinois State, currently ranked 131 nationally, aims for its second MVC title in three years, with a lineup that includes TJ Barger and Alex McCulla.

The Horizon League Men`s and Women`s Golf Championships are also underway, with Purdue Fort Wayne and Youngstown State women, along with Wright State men, leading after the first round. Notable performances include Yinta Yang from Green Bay and Shane Ochs from Wright State, both vying for top spots.
