Burke Triumphs at Leinster Women`s Championship

Shannon Burke wins Leinster Women`s Championship, while Beth Coulter excels at Big-12 Conference, showcasing Irish golf talent.

Shannon Burke kicked off her 2025 golf season with a remarkable victory at the Leinster Over 18 Women`s Championship held at Blainroe Golf Club. She finished with a score of 73, concluding at -2 overall, and secured a three-shot win over Karen O`Neill. Burke`s impressive round featured birdies on the 2nd, 6th, and three additional birdies on the back nine, despite a double bogey on the 8th hole. The event attracted 86 players, all competing under excellent weather conditions on the scenic coastal parkland course.

At the same time, Mullingar`s Siobhan O`Donnell Murphy claimed the Duggan Cup with a gross score of 93, narrowly edging out Sinead Curristan by two shots in a countback. O`Donnell Murphy, who had not participated in the event for seven years, expressed her joy at the unexpected win despite encountering some challenges during her round.

In collegiate golf, Beth Coulter from Kirkistown Castle finished second at the Big-12 Conference Women`s Golf Championship with a final round of five-under 66, ending level-par and just two shots behind winner Sophie Bert. Coulter`s strong performance included a front nine of 29 strokes, showcasing her talent as she helped her team, Arizona State, reach a playoff.

Irish players John Doyle and Adam Fahey also made headlines at the French Boys and Girls Opens, qualifying for the matchplay stages, while Rory McIlroy`s recent Masters victory continues to garner global attention.
