Western United Triumphs Over Sydney FC in A-League Clash

Western United`s 2-1 victory over Sydney FC boosts their A-League standings, highlighting key performances from Logarzo and Johnson.

Western United clinched a vital 2-1 victory against Sydney FC in the A-League Women competition on February 9, 2025, at Leichhardt Oval. This win propelled Western United into the top four of the league standings, showcasing their determination and skill.

The match kicked off with an impressive start from Western United, as captain Chloe Logarzo found the net in the sixth minute with a precise low strike that slipped past debutant goalkeeper Bethany Mason-Jones. However, Sydney FC quickly responded, with midfielder Mackenzie Hawkesby equalizing in the 14th minute from inside the box.

Western United regained the lead shortly after, with Kahli Johnson scoring her eighth goal of the season. Johnson`s left-footed effort from outside the box, following a clever combination with Logarzo, put Western United ahead 2-1. Despite a missed penalty by Logarzo in the second half, saved by Mason-Jones, Western United held firm to secure all three points.

This victory solidified Western United`s position in fourth place with 25 points from 15 matches, closely trailing Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United. In contrast, Sydney FC`s struggles continued, leaving them in 11th position with only 9 points from 16 matches, as their hopes for finals football dimmed further.
