The 2025 Coachella Valley Invitational is heating up at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, showcasing a thrilling preseason soccer event featuring clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS) and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The tournament kicked off with several exciting matches, setting the stage for a competitive atmosphere.

On the opening day, St. Louis SC and Real Salt Lake battled to a 1-1 draw, while LA Galaxy and Austin FC also ended in a stalemate with a 1-1 scoreline. The Portland Timbers secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes. LAFC emerged victorious against Chicago Fire FC, with Denis Bouanga netting the decisive goal in the 63rd minute after a penalty kick was awarded following a foul on Jeremy Ebobisse. LAFC`s performance was bolstered by standout displays from Igor, the new Brazilian holding midfielder, and Adrian Wibowo, who came close to scoring with a shot that struck both posts. New York City FC and Sporting Kansas City played to a goalless draw, showcasing strong defensive efforts from both sides.

The Coachella Valley Invitational features 14 MLS clubs, including Austin FC, LA Galaxy, LAFC, and others, alongside six NWSL teams such as Angel City FC and Portland Thorns. Matches are being broadcast on FOX`s owned-and-operated stations in select home markets, with streaming available via the FOX Local Mobile app.

In other MLS news, Sporting Kansas City made headlines by acquiring Dejan Joveljić from LA Galaxy for $4 million, while New York City FC loaned forward Jovan Mijatovic to Belgium`s OH Leuven.
